Child Birth and Pregnancy

Hypnobirthing through your pregnancy and child birth

‘Hypnobirthing’ is a name now generally given to the practice of hypnotherapy for childbirth. Hypnotherapy enables the client to deter any fears or distractions during pregnancy and child birth allowing them to focus completely on the delightful experience of bringing a new life into the world. Through hypnosis any fear or pain will be replaced with a safe, peaceful and comfortable birth.

Research has also concluded that mothers that have used hypnotherapy to relax give birth to babies that are more likely to sleep and feed better.

Hypnotherapy will bring to light any anxieties that you may be feeling about your pregnancy or have towards giving birth. I will tailor make the treatment sessions so they are adapted to meet your individual needs, which will involve techniques such as deep relaxation, visualisation and self-hypnosis to reject any undesirable thoughts. Hypnotherapy will allow you to take control of these fears empowering you to be fully equipped for child birth.

Hypnobirthing works on the basis that much of the labour-related pain is the result of fear and stress which can be alleviated or completely removed. Research into the hypnobirthing practice has concluded reductions in pain during birthing: Mendoza, M. E.; Capafons, A. (2009). "Efficacy of clinical hypnosis: A summary of its empirical evidence". [source] Feeling calm and comfortable during labour enables a high level of oxygen to enter the body which is of course good for the baby but also for the mother, as this deeply relaxed state helps the production of endorphins which is the body’s natural pain reliever.

Evidence has also shown that there are a huge number of advantages from hypnobirthing for women during and after childbirth, these can range from a reduction in labour time, babies having higher Apgar scores, increased chances of children feeding and sleeping better, increase in oxygen levels in mother and baby, assisting the natural birth process along with reducing aches and pains during pregnancy and many more.
